ABOUT the ARTIST

My name is Michael Koontz. I am a 28 yr old artist and crafter from Greenville, SC. Currently I work as a high school art teacher, imparting a love of the arts to the next generation.

My own artwork is often inspired by my love of fantasy and the unknown. My work on this site is based around the concept of art and other items from a time period, or rather time periods, that never actually existed in history as we know it. However, these alternate timelines and histories are often that which fuels the creative minds of writers and producers in television, film and literature to this very day. It is this same ideal of things that don't really exist that fuels the creative imaginations of children and adults alike when acting out or viewing these stories, whether through movies, books, games and other activities.

A good bit of my work at present is also fueled by my own creative endeavors with my online graphic novel titled Prilian Legends. The story is one I have been working on in one form or another since I was a teenager in high school myself. The setting is a fictional world similar to our own but populated by peoples and creatures of various world mythos. The time period I adopted for this story falls somewhere near what we would think of as a Victorian steam era though there is a healthy dose of magic and mysticism to accompany the general sense of exploration and technological advancement.

As far as materials and media choices, I tend to work with whatever strikes my fancy at the time. Artistically speaking, I lean very heavily towards photography and digital arts, having a Fine Arts Degree in Photography and having studied, and now teach, digital media arts extensively. For crafting purposes I like to work with leathers and metals but try to find just the right materials for whatever the current project may be.
